Thirteen new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Friday in the South Burnett council area – in Kingaroy, Nanango and Murgon.

This takes the tally of infections in the Cherbourg and South Burnett council areas since December 29 to 27.

There are now 15 active cases in the South Burnett and 12 in Cherbourg.

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group confirmed on Friday afternoon that cases had been detected in Kingaroy, Nanango and Murgon.

LDMG chair Cr Roz Frohloff said the number of positive cases was expected to continue rising over coming days.

“I urge the community to be prepared,” she said.

“It is our understanding that all cases are being monitored by Queensland Health and in appropriate isolation as required.

“The LDMG is unaware of individual cases or contract tracing as (this) is undertaken by Queensland Health.”

Cr Frohloff and representatives of the South Burnett LDMG met on Friday with members of the Cherbourg LDMG and the District Disaster Group to discuss the unfolding situation across the region.

southburnett.com.au has been keeping track of some basic statistics for local Council areas since the re-opening of the State border on December 13.

These statistics, from Queensland Health, show the total number of confirmed positive cases per Local Government Area since the pandemic began in January 2020.

They are NOT the total of current ACTIVE cases but demonstrate how the virus is now spreading quickly throughout the local community.

We took snapshots on Dec 13, Dec 21, Dec 29, Dec 30 and Dec 31:

  • South Burnett: 3 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 18
  • Cherbourg:  – / – / – / 3 / 12
