Wondai will get a new service station after the South Burnett Regional Council gave its support to the project at a committee meeting on Wednesday.

The service station will be built on three adjoining vacant blocks of land between Edward and Ivory streets in Wondai, with vehicles entering and exiting the site from the Bunya Highway.

It will be owned by SJS Fuels Pty Ltd, a company that already operates several service stations in the Gympie region including the Shell station at Goomeri.

In March, SJS Fuels also received provisional approval from Toowoomba Regional Council to build a new seven-day servo on a vacant block at the corner of Toomey and Margaret streets in Yarraman.

A spokesman for SJS Fuels said some details of the Yarraman project were still being discussed with Toowoomba Council, but the company was hopeful work could begin as soon as these final matters were resolved.

The company said the Wondai servo will have six pumps – including one diesel – along with a 300sq m ancillary shop selling food and convenience products.

The new service station will operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week, which will provide some new employment opportunities in the town.

It will also be surrounded by an acoustic fence to shield adjoining residential properties from excessive noise.

Council officers reported the project had received approvals from all relevant authorities.

They also noted only one objection had been received about the proposal during the compulsory public notification period.

Officers recommended councillors approve the development subject to standard conditions that attach to service station developments.

The motion to do so was moved by Cr Gavin Jones, seconded by Cr Kathy Duff and carried unanimously.

The vote will be ratified at the next General Meeting.
