Children and grandchildren of Vietnam veterans have been encouraged to apply for funding under the Long Tan Bursary scheme.

Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said the scheme honoured the service and sacrifice of Australia’s Vietnam War veterans by providing financial support for their children and grandchildren to undertake post-secondary education.

“This bursary scheme is designed to assist students with continuing their education and obtaining formal qualifications to pursue their chosen career,” he said.

“The education and training of the next generation of students is just one of the ways the government is honouring the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country in Vietnam.

“This is an important bursary, and with the applications now being extended to the grandchildren of Vietnam veterans, it will continue to assist students to reach their study goals for many years to come.”

Applications for each academic year open on Vietnam Veterans Day, August 18, and close on October 31.

The Long Tan Bursary scheme is administered by the Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
