More than 20 cyclists will be hitting the road soon to take part in the very last Ride 4 Relay fundraiser for South Burnett Relay For Life.
This is the 10th year the event has been held.
Since it began, the annual Ride 4 Relay – and associated Cattle For A Cure auction – have raised an amazing $280,638 for Cancer Council Queensland.
The event was started in 2017 by Jason Wyeth, from the South Burnett Mountain Bike Club, as a way to support the South Burnett’s Relay For Life’s efforts.
Since then it has been one of the strongest of the fundraising teams.
Jason told southburnett.com.au he thought the 10th event this year was a good opportunity to finish on a high note.
“All good things must come to an end,” he said. “We’ve had the same volunteers from the start and I thought we should give them a break.”
But because it is the last event, Jason is very keen to break the fundraising record of $51,204 raised last year.
This year the riders will be rolling away from the Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club’s grounds, near Kingaroy Airport, early on August 25 with five days and 402km of cycling ahead of them.
They will be completing loop rides each day, returning to the Machinery Club at night to camp.
The riders will explore areas around Kumbia, Nanango, Wondai and north and west of Kingaroy, covering both gravel and bitumen roads and sections of the South Burnett Rail Trail.
The Ride 4 Relay team’s fundraising efforts have also been boosted during the past few years by the auction of donated cattle.
This year a record nine head have been donated for the Cattle For A Cure auction which will be held at the Murgon Saleyards in September.
