The turn-around time for plumbing work applications to the South Burnett Regional Council will be halved to 10 days from next month.

The change has come in response to the new Plumbing and Drainage Regulation Act 2019.

The Act will come into force on July 1, along with a modernised Queensland Plumbing Wastewater Code.

The new laws set time frames for councils to approve plumbing applications, with permit applications divided into two streams: fast-track and standard.

At last week’s monthly Council meeting, Councillors voted to opt out of the fast-track process that would reduce application processing times from 20 days to two.

Instead, the Council will adopt the standard 10-day processing model.

Mayor Keith Campbell said permit applications for plumbing and drainage works will still be completed within half the current time period.

However, the standard model was a better fit for Council’s limited resources.

The Council retains the option to adopt the fast-track process at a future time if resources permit.
