Nominations have opened for the 2027 South Burnett Regional Youth Council.

The South Burnett Regional  Council is asking motivated young people aged 12 to 24 who live in the South Burnett region (including Cherbourg) to step forward and become part of this dynamic group.

“Youth Council is a great opportunity for the youth to have a voice and give advice to Council in its decision-making,” Cr Danita Potter said.

“The youth are integral in shaping the region’s future as it is their region and their future. I have been very excited to be a part of Youth Council during 2026 and look forward to next year’s group.”

The Youth Council will consist of up to 20 members and aims to be a diverse representation of the youth population across the region.

The members will advocate for the needs and aspirations of their peers, while gaining valuable leadership and personal development skills.

Youth Council members will:

  • Help organise youth and community events
  • Participate in the delivery of youth projects
  • Take part in self-development activities
  • Gain insight into how local government operates

Nominations close on Friday, December 11.
