Council plans to hire a diver to fix a faulty valve inside one of Kingaroy’s main water reservoirs

South Burnett Regional Council will have to hire a specialist scuba diver to repair a water leak from the main Kingaroy water storage tanks.

Residents in Reservoir Street have complained to Council that water is being wasted, simply running down the street.

Speaking on 4SB on Tuesday morning, Mayor Keith Campbell acknowledged the water leak was distressing when the region was in drought.

However, he said the volume of water being lost was “minimal”.

“There is a valve fitting of some type (inside the reservoir) so we need a specialist scuba diver who can dive into the tank to repair the problem in there,” Mayor Campbell said.

“Yes, there is a little bit of water running along Reservoir Street but we need to keep the tank supplied so we can continue to supply water to the residents.”

Mayor Campbell asked residents to “bear with us” for the next week or so.

“We have to bring a scuba diver in from, I believe, the Gold Coast to attend to this matter.”
