Nominations are closing soon for Toowoomba Regional Council’s new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee.

Cr Geoff McDonald said community representatives had until 5:00pm on Friday, December 7, to submit their applications.

“I’ve been impressed with the quality of applicants we’ve already received but encourage more people to apply,” he said.

“This is a new group for the region and it’s important we get a good representation of the community on the committee.

“A priority of the new committee will be developing a TRC Reconciliation Action Plan to provide a framework for Council to support the national Reconciliation movement.

“The establishment of this important committee will provide guidance on the cultural needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.”

Interested community member applicants must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and will need to submit a written expression of interest to info@tr.qld.gov.au or by post to Council.

The committee will consist of 11 members including two councillors.

More information about the committee or the application process can be found at on the Council website
