Transport and Main Roads Department has begun work to “rehabilitate” a 3.2km stretch of Chinchilla-Wondai Road by removing trees and stabilising and strengthening the pavement.

The work is being carried out on a section between Aberdeen Avenue (the Mundubbera-Durong Road intersection) and Jacksons Road at Durong.

TMR Wide Bay Burnett District Director Hendrik Roux said the project would make Chinchilla-Wondai Road safer, improve its longevity and reduce maintenance costs.

“We will also remove vegetation in the corridor, which will be minimised, while still conforming to safety standards,” Mr Roux said

Mr Roux said the clearing would take place ahead of the rehabilitation works and was expected to take about three weeks to complete.

“RoadTek will deliver the works, which will be carried out between 6:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday,” he said.

“Traffic controllers, single-lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place, as required, to complete the works safely and efficiently.”

The South Burnett Regional Council has advised motorists they may experience delays while works are completed.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of March 2019, weather permitting.
