The South Burnett Regional Council has begun a program to replace 5.6km of ageing water pipes in the region, some of which are up to 60 years old.

Works have begun at Deakin Crescent, Nanango, a high-priority location after a reported 13 burst pipes this year.

Earlier this year, local residents presented the Council with a petition seeking urgent repairs in the street.

The pipe replacement program will start in Nanango but will continue at other locations across the region.

Council engineers are prioritising the schedule according to the condition of the pipes.

Cr Roz Frohloff said residents in affected streets would suffer some temporary water service disruptions.

“We ask people to be patient while works are underway,” she said.

The Deakin Crescent work is expected to be competed in six weeks.

Council allocated $1.4 million towards water mains replacement in the 2018-19 Budget.
