The South Burnett Regional Council will remove two pedestrian crossings in Murgon after safety concerns were raised by Queensland Police.

The two crossings are located in Gore Street, on the northern and southern sides of Dutton Street East.

Police raised the issue at the most recent quarterly meeting of the Traffic Advisory Committee.

A Council spokesperson said staff would remove the existing crossings, signs and kerb ramps after consultations with surrounding schools and the Department of Transport.

“This will provide a safer environment for all pedestrians,” the spokesperson said.

Works are expected to be completed in June.

Pedestrians have been advised the safest option on Gore Street is to use the pedestrian crossing near the front of Murgon State School.
