The South Burnett has been a beehive of big morning teas lately … and they’ve all been in a good cause.

May is the traditional time to hold one of Australia’s Biggest Morning Teas to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

So far this year there have been get-togethers in Blackbutt and Proston, along with at least three in Kingaroy.

The Cooinda Craft Group held their Biggest Morning Tea at Kingaroy’s Town Common Hall recently in place of their usual Monday morning craft morning, which is normally held there every week between 9:00am and 1:30pm.

The group’s 30 members usually pursue a range of different crafts at their meetings.

But thanks to a lot of furious behind-the-scenes baking in the days leading up to the event, 40 guests enjoyed a sumptuous High Tea instead.

South Burnett Relay for Life president Rowena Dionysius was the day’s guest speaker.

She spoke about the region’s dedication to raising funds for cancer research.

This dedication – whether through Relay For Life, Biggest Morning Teas or simple donations – has led to the area becoming the biggest per-capita contributor to cancer research in Queensland.

After Rowena’s talk, guests were able to buy tickets in two raffles for the chance to win great prizes.

In all, the morning’s effort raised almost $1000 for the Cancer Council.
