There were a lot of tired young rugby league players – and even more tired adult volunteers – at the end of the annual Wondai Wolves Mini Mods carnival at Wondai Sportsground.
More than 500 games were played across 11 fields, from Under 6s through to Under 12s.
As well as local South Burnett clubs, there were teams from across southern and central Queensland, including Bundaberg, Burpengary, Childers, Hervey Bay, Jimboomba, Lowood, Maryborough, Tarampa and Torbanlea.
Almost 120 teams took part in the event on July 11, each accompanied by proud parents as well as managers, coaches and support staff.
Then there were all the referees and linespeople.
Unfortunately, there are no scores kept in junior league games, but players from each team were selected to receive “Spirit of the Carnival” awards.
The size (and success) of the day can be seen by the statistics that the Wolves posted on social media: 600+ burgers, 1800+ hot chips, 1200 nuggets, 400 hotdogs, 250 pies and sausage rolls and 1500+ drinks!
