The South Burnett Regional Council has begun its search for a new Chief Executive Officer.

Last December, current CEO Gary Wall announced he would be retiring on July 6 after a 47-year career with the former Kingaroy Shire Council, and then the South Burnett Regional Council.

Mr Wall was formerly the Council’s Finance General Manager, and was appointed to the CEO position in February 2015.

He beat a field of 46 candidates to win the post.

At Wednesday’s monthly meeting, Councillors voted to appoint recruitment agency McArthur to find a replacement.

They also voted to form a panel which will be responsible for assessing and interviewing applicants to determine a short list of candidates who would be interviewed by all Councillors.

The panel will be composed of Mayor Keith Campbell, Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff, Human Resources portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit and a representative from McArthur.

The Mayor was also authorised to appoint the preferred candidate selected by the majority of Councillors during the interview process, and negotiate an employment contract with them.
