The South Burnett Regional Council has imposed temporary Emergency Water Restrictions for the Kingaroy town area due to storm damage.

The emergency restrictions began at 5:00am on Wednesday.

The restrictions are required because the Kingaroy Water Treatment Plant has been without power since storms brought down power lines on Tuesday afternoon.

A Council spokesperson said some areas of Kingaroy may also be experiencing reduced pressure or no supply of water.

This was also due to a number of power outages across the area.

The Council has requested that residents connected to the Kingaroy water supply scheme restrict water use to essential internal and essential external uses only, such as cleaning of windscreens, pet enclosures or emergency purposes.

Watering of gardens and lawns is not permitted.

Once Ergon Energy has restored power to the site and the Water Treatment Plant can begin pumping water to town, Council will remove these restrictions.

UPDATE December 28: South Burnett Regional Council has lifted the emergency Kingaroy town water restrictions, which now revert back to Level 3.
