The winners of the annual Hancock Prospecting Christmas Lights competition were announced on Wednesday at the South Burnett Regional Council’s monthly meeting.

Kath Kennedy from 40 Amaroo Drive in Wondai has won the $15,000 first prize, and David and Linda Marskell from 14 Cowie Drive in Kingaroy have been awarded the $10,000 runner-up prize.

Other urban and rural winners are:

  • 1st Nanango Rural: DJ and SJ Hancock, 111 Burnett Highway, Nanango

  • 1st Murgon Urban: Malcolm and Cassandra Bayntun, 79 Douglas Street, North Murgon

  • 1st Murgon Rural: Lindenberg Family, 1265 Gayndah Road, Merlwood

  • 1st Wondai Urban: Michael and Krystle Rose, 52 Pring Street, Wondai

  • 2nd Business: Hillview Kidz Family Daycare, 3 Daisy Court, Kingaroy

Urban and rural winners will receive a $500 prize, and runners-up will receive $300.

The winner of the business display will receive $1000, and the runner-up $500.

South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell congratulated all 65 entrants for the high standard of this year’s competition.

He said it had been so difficult to select the best displays that in one category (Kingaroy Urban) there had been a tie for the runner-up prize.
