The notorious intersection of Taylors and Meiers Roads with the Bunya Highway north of Kingaroy will be getting an upgrade from Monday (May 29).

The intersection has been the site of several serious accidents in recent years, some fatal.

In April last year the Federal Government announced it would give the South Burnett Regional Council $600,000 under its Black Spot Program funding to make the intersection safer.

It also announced it would provide a further $1.05 million to improve the intersections of the D’Aguilar Highway and Coolabunia Road (the Bora Ring turn-off) and Mary Street, near Coolabunia State School.

Work on the Coolabunia intersections is now nearing completion, and the Taylors Road upgrade will conclude both projects.

The intersection will receive a right turn treatment, and a separate left turn lane for vehicles travelling south.

To provide a safe work environment during the construction period, Taylors Road will be closed for an estimated three weeks.

However Meiers Road will be closed to traffic for a longer period due to the type of works being conducted.

Detours will be put in place on Taylors Road via Moore Street and on Meiers Road via West Street.

Traffic on the Bunya Highway will be controlled by traffic lights or by traffic controllers, with minor delays expected.

During road works, vehicle access to properties will be local traffic only, but residents will be notified of any planned works.

Any resident with property access concerns should contact the Onsite Supervisor.
