A man missing from Gayndah for more than a week has been airlifted to hospital after being found alone on Saturday afternoon on an isolated back road.

Alan Ellsworth, 74, was last seen at a house in Warton Street, Gayndah, on May 12.

He was located about 4:30pm on Saturday on Crooked Creek Road at Deep Creek, south-west of Gayndah.

His bogged Ford Falcon stationwagon was found about a kilometre away.

It appears Mr Ellsworth tried to get help by walking away from the bogged vehicle but at some point collapsed, possibly suffering a stroke.

Police do not know how long Mr Ellsworth was lying near the roadside, or how long he spent with his bogged stationwagon.

An ambulance spokesman said Mr Ellsworth was severely dehydrated and suffering from exposure when found.

He was taken by road ambulance to Gayndah Hospital and then airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
