A 14-year-old boy has been dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act after a string of break-ins – and thousands of dollars damage – occurred in Murgon in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Break-ins occurred at Murgon State High School, St Joseph’s Primary School and houses in Nutt Street and Angel Avenue.

Windows were smashed at the schools and houses, and a screen door damaged.

Officer-in-charge of Murgon Police, Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge, said the boy told police he was looking for items to steal.

“There was extensive damage but nothing was taken,” Snr Sgt Guteridge said.

A man has been charged with high-range drink-driving after he was stopped by police in Henry Street, Nanango, on Saturday afternoon.

Officer-in-charge of Nanango Police, Sergeant Jason Newton, said the driver was intercepted about 4:30pm.

Police will allege he recorded a breath alcohol concentration of 0.252 when tested.

He will appear in Nanango Magistrates Court on April 7.

Kingaroy Police are seeking help to locate a green Holden Commodore sedan stolen from a garage in Prince Street, Kingaroy,  between March 12-13.

Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Johannesen said the vehicle had registration plates 55-JPG.

Police are also seeking assistance from the public in regards to two break-ins at St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy on the nights of March 10 and March 11.

A thief broke into the groundsman’s shed at the rear of school and removed a number of tools.

Police believe the same person returned the following night and stole more items.

Power tools, a whipper snipper, pressure cleaner and leaf blower were amongst the items stolen.

Traffic matters have been keeping Kingaroy Police busy lately.

  • A 38-year-old man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on April 4 charged with driving while SPER-suspended after police intercepted his vehicle on Walter Road on Friday.
  • A 21-year-old Kingaroy man will face a string of charges following a traffic stop in Youngman Street on Saturday. The man was taken into custody and charged with a multiple traffic offences including speeding, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and drink-driving. Acting Snr Sgt Johannesen said the man was bailed but police stopped him again on Sunday, driving the same vehicle. The Magna sedan has been impounded by police for seven days.
  • A 30-year-old Kingaroy man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on April 4 to face a charge of unlicensed driving after he was stopped in Ivy Street on Saturday.
  • A 31-year-old Brisbane man has been charged with unlicensed driving after he was stopped on the D’Aguilar Highway on Sunday. He will appear in Nanango Magistrates Court on April 7.
