FLASHBACK: Sylvia Meechan, from Blackbutt, shares a joke with BBAC president Jeff Connor at a Butt Art Gallery opening last year … today BBAC launched a five-minute online survey in an effort to assess the region’s future aged care needs

What sort of aged care facilities is the South Burnett likely to need within the next few years?

Over the last two decades the South Burnett Region has experienced an influx of people in the baby boom generation, thanks to the “tree-change” phenomenon.

Some of these people are already entering the over 65 age group.

There are also a significant number of older residents retiring from the region’s farms.

And according to State Government projections, the number of people in the South Burnett Region aged 85 years and over is projected to increase in the years ahead.

The Blackbutt & Benarkin Aged Care Association has identified there is a growing demand for independent living, as well as a future need for an aged care facility to accommodate this aging population.

The Association is appealing for public input to ensure it can help provide the best aged care and residential facilities for our region’s aging population by 2020.

It has launched an online survey today to gather data, and would like as many South Burnett residents as possible to take part.

“It will only take 5 minutes of your time,” Association chairman Jeff Connor said.

“But is vital that we get as many responses as possible to provide for the future needs of our community.”
