The discovery of protected plants near the Tingoora Chelmsford Road has delayed a proposed curve realignment west of the Tingoora Loop Road for a month.

The South Burnett Regional Council announced last month it planned to start working on the realignment on January 27.

However the plants were discovered when the work site was inspected, and the road was reopened on January 28.

Instead, the Council will now bring forward reconstruction work on a 600 metre section of Tingoora Chelmsford Road south of the Springs Road and Old Chelmsford Road intersection.

Roadworks began on Monday, February 1 and are expected to take about two months.

During this time, traffic can still travel along the Tingoora Chelmsford Road but there may be minor delays.

Residents with concerns during the construction period should contact the onsite supervisor.

General inquiries can be made through Council’s Customer Service Centres or by phoning 4189-9100.

UPDATED February 2: Initially Council located a single Acacia tingoorensis but has now identified 10 Callitris baileyi
