Shoppers using the busy Glendon Street car park – and businesses that have shop accesses to it – can expect some disruptions from Monday when work begins on a four month upgrade

January 10, 2016

The South Burnett Regional Council will begin a major upgrade of the Glendon Street car park in Kingaroy’s CBD on Monday (January 11).

The project was forecast in this year’s Budget after engineering inspections last March found the pavement of the car park and its adjacent laneway had failed.

The upgrade will include the replacement of existing water and sewerage mains, the reconstruction of Circular Place and an upgrade of existing parking areas.

A new playground area will also be installed and other beautification works carried out.

Construction work will involve clearing, excavation, gravel pavement, asphalt bitumen sealing, landscaping, signage and line marking.

A Council spokesperson said works will be arranged to minimise disruption to shop accesses and parking thoughout the project, as far as possible.

Access to local businesses that back onto Circular Place will be carried out in stages, with road closures and changed traffic conditions put in place as required.

Pedestrian traffic will also be restricted at some times during construction.

The project is expected to take four months to complete.

Any residents or businesses that have concerns during the construction period should contact the Council’s Manager of Roads and Drainage, Jeff Stephan, or Customer Service on (07) 4189-9100.

The CBD car park is usually packed with cars and pedestrians during the week; the upgrade is the first carried out in the area for many years
