The discovery of a major termite infestation in the walls and ceiling frame of the Kingaroy Heritage Museum forced its closure on Friday.

The South Burnett Regional Council advised the Museum would be closed to the public until further notice.

The adjoining Visitor Information Centre and Kingaroy Art Gallery – which are also part of the Heritage precinct – will remain open.

Council officers will inspect the extent of termite damage at the Museum to see if repairs can be arranged.
