Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has congratulated the South Burnett Regional Council for being one of the Queensland councils to receive funding through the “Get Out, Get Active” program.

She said this was the second time SBRC has been successful through this funding program which aimed to encourage more women and girls to participate in sport and active recreation.

“I’d really like to congratulate the Council on being successful for a second time. They will be receiving more than $16,000 to hold a series of fitness programs across the South Burnett for local women,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“There’ll be a 12-week women’s aquatic fitness program across six pools in the South Burnett, plus the Council will be able to purchase more aquatic fitness equipment.”

Mrs Frecklington said the “Get Out Get Active” program was an initiative of the former LNP Government and it was great to see the current State Government acknowledging its success and retaining it for a second round.

The latest “Get Out Get Active” program, which was announced by Cr Deb Palmer at Wednesday’s Council meeting, did not draw universal approval from SBRC Councillors.

While welcoming the new grant and thanking Mrs Frecklington for her help in securing it, Mayor Wayne Kratzmann asked why the program was only for women.

“These days there are plenty of house husbands who would probably enjoy the chance to get out and get active too,” the Mayor said.

“Quite a few of these types of Government programs lately seem to be aimed at women only.

“Where there is no good reason for it, I think they should consider broadening their target market to include men as well.”
