Kingaroy Town Hall was packed with proud parents and friends on Thursday night for the 58th Annual Kingaroy State High School Speech night, the first with the school’s new principal, Ashley Roediger.

Chairperson for the night was P&C president Debbie Jackson, who detailed the highlights of 2015.

These included the successful integration of Year 7 into the Secondary School, the opening of the three-storey Junior Secondary building, the introduction of the Clontarf Academy program to the school, and the creation of a School of Excellence In Music and a School of Excellence In Netball.

The relationship with sister school Fudooka High in Japan also blossomed, with 22 Kingaroy students and three teachers travelling to Japan in July. In August, Kingaroy hosted Japanese students in return.

Three teachers and 26 students also travelled to New Zealand in September.

Special guest speaker for the night was former Kingaroy State High School principal David Ballin who is now Assistant Regional Director for the Darling Downs South West Region of Education Queensland.

Mr Ballin was principal at Kingaroy for 25 years, officially handing over to Mr Roediger at the start of 2015.

The crowd in the hall was entertained by performances by the Kingaroy State High School vocal group, concert band and stage band.

Also announced were the School Captains for 2016 … principal Ashley Roediger with,  at left, vice-captains Matthew Tarlinton and Grace Bredhauer; and, middle, captains Callum Tucker and Ellie Dalton
