Traffic along Nanango’s Fitzroy and Drayton Streets was temporarily disrupted on Monday to allow Council workmen to erect a new al fresco structure outside the Bendigo Bank building.

Motorists travelling along the eastbound leg of Drayton Street between Fitzroy and Henry Streets, or the southbound leg of Fitzroy Street before the new roundabout, had to take a short detour to ensure worker safety.

However through traffic heading west along Drayton Street and north along Fitzroy Street was not affected.

The Council brought the shade structure components to the location on a truck, then used a crane to move them into position.

Finishing touches will be applied over the coming week.

Further down Drayton Street, other Council workmen continued working on the remaining portions of the project, including a major upgrade to the Drayton Street pedestrian crossing.

Nanango’s CBD upgrade project is expected to be finished by the end of this month, after which it will be officially launched with a community street party in early November.

The free event, organised by Cr Barry Green, is expected to feature a sausage sizzle and local entertainers.
