Johnathan Thurston

A football jersey signed by Queensland State of Origin rugby league superstar Johnathan Thurston will be handed over to its lucky new owner at the Mayor’s Community Charity Breakfast on Friday (August 21).

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said the framed Maroons jersey, which was signed by Thurston and includes a personal message, was one of the most sought-after items during the auction at the Mayor’s Gala Ball in May.

“The jersey had the highest amount of bidders battling it out,” Mayor Kratzmann said.

The lucky winner was Kathy Driver, who donated $2450 for the honour of owning Thurston’s coveted 2015 State of Origin jersey.

The Maroons’ star signed the jersey after the Queenslanders’ historic State Of Origin win earlier this year, and donated it to help raise money for the South Burnett community.

The Mayor’s Gala Ball – and events like Friday’s Community Charity Breakfast at the Town Common Hall – raise funds for the Mayor’s Community Benefit Fund.
