Malcolm Rea, Kevin Krosch and Denis Carroll from Motors In Motion … a reluctant decision has been made to call off the Wondai Sprints

April 9, 2015

The Motors In Motion committee has been forced to call off the Wondai Sprints meeting that was to be held in the Wondai Industrial Estate from June 19-21.

Organisers had received approval from the Confederation Of Motor Sport (CAMS) who had also checked the track layout.

South Burnett Regional Council offered to resurface the proposed track and did so late last year.

Unfortunately, the re-seal was not suitable for sprint car racing.

It is believed a re-seal to a higher standard would cost $70,000 to $80,000, money the committee simply does not have.

The Constitution of the not-for-profit group also forbids it from going into debt so the committee has reluctantly decided to cancel the event.

Organisers say up to 150 drivers and crews had expressed interest in coming.

  1. What a shame… 5 or 6 cars from up here were ready to go… only 6hrs travelling for us blokes … just down the road!!! Please keep us informed of any future events.

  2. It is a real shame. The stated $80,000 for the proper reseal is only one-twenty-fifth of the amount for the silly rail trail. Was the dodgy reseal planned or accidental? The spin off of this event for the local support businesses would be greater than that for the rail trail and would be of a greater benefit to more of general community than that for the rail trail set which is really tourism wishful hoping. But wait … this event will probably spring up in Kingaroy.

    • Disgruntled should experience what Rail Trails have achieved for the regions in which they are established before calling them silly

  3. Hmmm…. let me see if I understand this right: because no-one in Wondai has ever wanted to invest $80,000 to build a South Burnett sprints track, that’s somehow Kingaroy’s fault? Well if you think it’s such a great idea, then why not sink the $80,000 into it yourself? Nothing’s stopping you, and I think the Kingaroy blokes who came up with the idea and have pushed it this far already would welcome you with open arms.

  4. Hi just wondering if anyone has any news on the Wondai sprints this year 2016. We are in Nanango and want to race our car. Thanks
