The Kingaroy Art Gallery has received 30 entries from local artists for the 2015 South Burnett Regional Council’s Acquisitive Art Competition.

The theme is “The Australian Light Horse” and entries could be in any media.

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said more than half of the entries had been received in the Youth category, mainly from students at St Mary’s Catholic College.

“Council is very pleased with the quality of the entries and it is good to see a wide range of media such as paintings, sculpture, drawings and paper tole,” he said.

Arts Portfolio holder Cr Ros Heit said South Burnett artist Lyn Felsman would judge the entries on Friday, April 10.

“Lyn will have a tough job of deciding who will take home the $1200 winner’s cheque,” Cr Heit said.

“Lyn will also award the Second, Third and Youth category winners on the day.

“Council would like to invite our local community to come along to the Art Gallery and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.”

The winners will be announced at the official opening of the exhibition on Saturday, April 11, at 10:30am.

Mayor Kratzmann will present the Council awards while Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington will present the People’s Choice Award.
