The dry weather has continued. And this week it continued so long that the South Burnett was drought-declared.

But that hasn’t stopped keen bowlers getting out on the greens.

In fact, a number of clubs are now well under way with their club championships.

So let’s start with Kingaroy – there are a number of interesting stories from there:

* * *

Kingaroy news:

Last Saturday Kingaroy held the fifth and final round of their popular Madcap Medley.

There was prize money up for grabs on this keenly fought day, with five teams within 2 points of the lead.

The format for the day was two games of 12 ends in Singles with one point for each win; then two games of 9 end Triples; and finally one game of 9 end rinks, with two points for a win.

Results were interesting…

  • Ali Barber 3 drew Pinnups 3
  • The Vets 3 drew Golden Oldies 3
  • Bedazzled 5 def Who’s Carrying Who 1
  • Whatever 6 def Semi Young 0
  • Swamp Critters 4 def Flintstones 2

The final standings were a bit of a boilover:

  • 1st: Whatever – 21 pts
  • 2nd: Flintstones – 18 pts
  • 3rd: Pinnup – 17 pts
  • 4th: Ali Barber – 16 pts
  • 5th: The Vets – 15 pts

Then on Sunday in Triples and Pairs:

  • Filipe Munoz, Ben Pratap and Glen Turner 25 def. Dave Woods, Eric Ford and Beryl Woods 13
  • Robbie Johnson, Alan Irwin and Ray Maclaren 22 def. Marj Moore, Val Jeppesen and Malcolm Macleod 18
  • Tony Perkins and Trevor Russ 15 def. Peter Taylor and Geoff Clutterbuck 14

Wednesday was Trophy Day, and in Fours where the largest winning margin determined the winners, the winners were Dave Woods, Des Richards, Annette O’Brien and Val Jeppesen with a margin of 9.

Then on Thursday in Triples where the largest winning margin was used to determine winners, Dave Woods, Peter Neilsen and Alan Irwin came out trumps with a margin of 19.

This competition also produced some very interesting scores:

  • Dave Woods, Peter Neilsen and Alan Irwin 32 def. Maree Millard, Irene Smith and John Coppard 13
  • Col McBride, Ross Olsson and Ray Maclaren 27 def. Darcy Munro, John Silvey and Ben Pratap 14
  • Harry Read, Des Richards and Bruce Johnston 21 def. Filipe Munoz, Keith Kratzmann and Kev Raffin 18
  • Keith Muller, Gladys Slatter and Richie Patterson 17 def. Marj Moore, Dave Clapperton and Bob Robinson 8
  • Geoff Clutterbuck, Erris Vale and Beryl Woods 17 def. Barry O’Brien, Steve Carland and Col Kratzmann 12

There are a big couple of days coming up at Kingaroy this week too: the Ladies Carnival on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Kilcoy news:

Last weekend at Toogoolawah in the first round of the Webster Shield, Kilcoy won with an overall total of 182-108.

The return match will be held at Kilcoy on 30 March.

  • B Singles: Brett Kelly def Denis Bleakley 25-21; and Lester Bechly def Bert Christie 25-21.

In last Tuesday’s Ladies Day, there was a busy green with three championship matches played. In the Star of the Green contest, Sharon Walker defeated Jenny Edwards and plays Pauline Lawson next week.

And in the Ladies Club social competition:

  • Wendy Smith, Michael Dunn, Col Ferguson and Dennis Thomson defeated Maxine Parrington, Ernie Herbert, Brett Kelly and John Glanville 13-12

Next Saturday March 22 the club is holding Social Bowls with two games of 13 ends.

The club is also playing quite a number of B Singles championships. Both Mens and Ladies were played on Thursday and I should have those results next week.

And don’t forget that it’s Pub Day in Kilcoy on Wednesday – don’t miss that one!

  • Kerry Knowles, Kev Profke, Rob Douglass and Leo Robinson def Merv Fitch, Brian Profke, Horst Myer and Chris MacLeod 24-14

The final of the Men’s Fours will be played next Saturday at 9:30am, and this match should attract a gallery.

  • Lola Harper and Robyn Diercke def Eileen Elliott and Kay Dugdell 7-6

All eyes will be on Nanango today, though, when Yarraman play Nanango in Rotational Triples at Nanango

Tansey news:

Tansey are well under way with their Championship calendar.

Last week the Mens singles were finalised. In the semi-finals:

  • A Barsby 25 def R Marshall 2
  • D Banbury 26 def M Litfin 19

In the final, A Barsby 26 def D Banbury 9. Well done Barsby!

And in social bowls last Friday night, with 3 points for a win and 1 point for an end:

  • Winners: R Chauvier and P Litfin with 16 points
  • Runners up M Litfin, B Henness and M Marschall with 15 Points.

The next night bowls will be on April 4.

And here’s one for the diary:

Tansey are combining with the Boonara Masonic Lodge to host a fundraiser next Saturday in aid of the Care Flight Helicopter service. Bowls start at 3:00pm and will be followed by a barbecue.

Looks like being a good afternoon out.

Nanango news:

In last Friday’s Scroungers:

  • Trevor George 82
  • Ben Pratap 51
  • Lew Saunders 47

And last Saturday, 32 players from Nanango and Kilkivan travelled to Burgowan to pay them a return visit. However Burgowan’s carpet green soon sorted out the visitors, and the only local team to win was Lew Saunders, Henry Bliesner, Sue Tucker and Brian Havell.

In Tuesday’s Men’s Social – with 1 for an end and 4 for a win:

  • Cec Bracken and Trevor George – 23 pts
  • Keith Carroll and Athol Jensen – 20 pts
  • Joe Aglizzio and John McConnell – 16 pts
  • Bob Hammond and Bob Hall – 14pts
  • Greg Pogson and Ben Pratap – 12pts
  • Lew Saunders and Nev Lawrence – 11pts

Lets stop there

Finally, Wednesday’s Ladies Club Social saw some of the regulars on the green.

A score of interest was Di McNeilage, June McKee and Sylvia Fanning 20 def Muriel Benfield, Margaret Bradford and Evelyn Jensen 14.

Nanango will host the Rotational Triples match against Yarraman today with a 12:30pm start.

On your bikes, bowlers!

Esk news:

Last Sunday in Pairs, Kerri-Ann and Frank played Greg and Armand; and Laurie and Pam played Rob and Karen.

There was quite a tussle on the second match – the game was actually a draw but Laurie and Pam won on count back.

Also on that day – in an Open Singles Championship game – Vicki Cameron defeated our 2012-13 champion Doug Laidlaw 25-18.

Vicki now plays Frank Hussey in the final.

And in Thursday night’s barefoot bowls, the singles winners were Pearlie, Stewart and Gerit.

Bribie Island will be visiting tomorrow and I’m looking forward to that one – it should be a match worth watching.

The club’s next trip away will be to Woongoolba for the Friendship Cup. Esk seem keen to retain the trophy.

Finally, a couple of memory joggers:

  • Pub Day at Toogoolawah on Tuesday
  • Pub Day at Kilcoy on Wednesday
