After being battered in last year’s floods, North Burnett Regional Council isn’t taking any chances with the cyclone currently forming off the North Queensland coast, urging residents to prepare for severe weather.
“Council in conjunction with Emergency Services are monitoring current weather conditions in the north of the state,” Mayor Don Waugh said today.
“At this point in time there is no threat to our region and should this change Council will advise the community.
“It is however a timely reminder to have emergency kits and evacuation plans up-to-date.”
Emergency kits should include items such as:
- Enough non-perishable food and bottled water to sustain you and your family for at least three days
- First aid kit
- Essential medications, prescriptions and dosage
- Sanitary items such as toilet paper, toothbrush/paste, soap/shampoo etc
- A torch with extra batteries
- Clothing and closed-toed shoes or boots for everyone in the household
