Kingaroy have been finishing their year on a high note this week with their Mixed Open Fours Championship, which is now all but decided.

Round One started last Saturday, and there were some really close matches there:

  • Lindy Clutterbuck, Norma Rook, Geoff Clutterbuck and Alan Rogerson 23 def. Charmaine Macleod, Wayne Thatcher, Bronwyn Grant and Malcolm Macleod 19
  • Gladys Slatter, Beryl Woods, Alan Irwin and Kev Raffin 20 def Amanda Le Mesurier, Des Richards, Val Jeppesen and Ray Crawford 13
  • Irene Maroski, Delwyn Powys, Lester Newman and Errol Young 25 def. Maree Millard, Wanda Carland, Paul Marychurch and Bob Robinson 17
  • Maureen Kemp, Rhonda Costello, Glen Turner and Phillip Kemp 24 def Bev Sorenson, Maureen Semgreen, Col Kratzmann, and Richie Patterson 12

Then the Semi Finals saw two of the closest matches played in many years, with one game being tied at the end of the regulation 21 ends and an extra end being played to determine the winners.

The other game was almost as close, with the scores tied after 20 ends. The winners were only decided on the last end.

The match scores here were:

  • Irene Maroski, Delwyn Powys, Lester Newman and Errol Young, 26 def. Gladys Slatter, Beryl Woods, Alan Irwin and Kev Raffin 24 after extra end to break a tie.
  • Maureen Kemp, Rhona Costello, Glen Turner and Phillip Kemp 21 def. Lindy Clutterbuck, Norma Rook, Geoff Clutterbuck and Alan Rogerson 19

But then it all went haywire … a severe thunderstorms hit Kingaroy and the final had to be postponed.

There will be a gallery for that match, I’m sure

Cheap Tuesday (on Tuesday of course) was very popular this week, with Nominated Pairs:

  • Alan Rogerson and Bruce Johnston 19 def. Dave Barwick and Col Kratzmann 14
  • Maree Millard and Bob Robinson 17 def. Robbie Johnson and his partner 13
  • Alan Irwin and Kev Raffin 29 def. Darcy Munro and Geoff Clutterbuck 12

And on Thursday – Trophy Day – in Triples, the winners were determined by the smallest winning margin.

  • The Winners were Darcy Munro, Geoff Clutterbuck and Kev Raffin, margin 1.
  • The Runners Up were Fred Keding, Felipe Munoz and Ben Pratap. margin 5

Durong news:

Durong finished their bowling calendar with a great sponsored day last weekend.

Sponsors were PBA Stockfeeds from Toowoomba and their local retailer, Darr Creek Oasis.

PBA brought out seven staff members from Toowoomba in a mini bus, and Durong had four rinks in action.

The winners?? Everyone was a winner – it was a great day!

The next big event at the club is a big social function organized to wind up the year – social bowls followed by a roast Christmas Dinner on Saturday December 7.

A Happy Christmas to all the folk at Durong.

Esk news:
.
Esk held their Pub Day last Tuesday week, and the green was full of players from Gatton, North Ipswich, Laidley, Lowood, Durack and Inala.

  • Round 1 winners were Derek Lightowlers’ team from Lowood Ross, Bob and Terry.
  • Round 2 winners were Dennis Heatons’ team: Dowd, Silk and Zillman.
  • Runners-up for the day were Roy Folan’s team from RABC: Robyn, Yvonne and Dudley
  • Winners for the day were Ted Bowles’ team from North Ipswich: Jacko, John Dickens and Dave Hirch

Social bowls were held on Wednesday of last week and also on Sunday.

Winners of Sunday’s trophies were Claude Hunt, Laurie Thomson, Frank Hussey, Karen Browne, Armand Leten and Ron Hills.

But Barefoot Bowls on Thursday was only eight minutes underway when a deluge hit, so that social bowls match quickly turned into a social night!

Trophy Day is at Esk today, and the Stitt and St George sponsor day on award presentation day. Should be a great roll-up.

Good news from Gayndah:

Their season is almost ready to wind up and last Sunday the finals of the B Singles and the Triples were completed.

The B Singles was a very closely contested affair, with not much in it until the final couple of ends where Alan Cooper came up trumps, downing Nev McCosker 25 to 22.

And in the triples final Alex Colvin, Steve Meredith and Peter Bennett were just too good for Rick Bellert, Brenden Harris and Ashley Harris – 26 to 10.

This weekend Gayndah holds its Mens Triples Carnival.

There’ll be 14 teams competing with five rounds of 15 ends.

Teams will be coming from the Sunshine Coast, Maryborough, Miriam Vale and Kilcoy, as well as a good roll-up of local teams

And on Sunday next week, the AGM will be held at 12 noon followed by bowls, then a barbeque tea and trophy presentation at 6.30pm

Well done Gayndah!
