What a big day at Durong last Saturday!

The club held a special “Chicks in Pink Day”, and all proceeds went directly to support breast cancer patients attached to the Mater Hospital.

Teams were picked randomly with an experienced player nominated as skip..

  • Winners of the day were skip Jeanette Stephens (Rockhampton) and her team mates Shane Pain (Jandowae) and Ross Price (Warwick)
  • Runners-up were skip Fay Simpson (Durong) with Brian McNamara (Jandowae) and John Marriott (Warwick)

The major sponsors for the day were Manar Park and local trucking company Pottsy’s Transport.

Over $1200 was raised, and Durong Bowls Club president Ian Matthews was very impressed.

Highlights of the day were the winning of the corner to corner draw competition by young Andrew Cockerill of Burra Burri, who found himself $50 richer with just one fantastic bowl; and the selection by Deb Wheeler from Chicks in Pink of the most outrageous and pink outfits, the owners of which each received a bottle of pink champagne.

The next Chicks in Pink day will be early in February 2014 with the theme of Blue Balls.

This will be a prostate cancer fundraiser to support patients attached to the Wesley Hospital.

Participants will be asked to dress in blue and non-compliers will be fined!
