What is happening in bowls this weekend? As it turns out, a heck of a lot!

Today – Saturday, October 19 – Nanango will be visiting Yarraman for Rotational Triples; the Pink Chicks at Durong will be holding a cancer fundraiser; at Kilcoy, the club will be holding Kay Avery Day, which is a fund- raiser for the Hospital Auxiliary; and Wondai will be contesting the Breathe Easy Carpet Cleaning Trophy.

And tomorrow – Sunday, October 20 – Yarraman will be holding the Dudley Brown/Ashley Memorial Day, an Open Fours competition with a 12:30 start

No big news from Yarraman – they’ve gone all social down there – but a busload of 43 ladies from Wide Bay visited on Wednesday.

They dropped in to our Wild Horse studio first and I had a great chat with Raylee from Pialba and Kay from Burgowan about bowls notes.

Then they filled the Yarraman green with social play and lunched with Yarraman ladies. Good to see some inter-district interaction.

Thursday night social bowls is proving quite popular at Yarraman, and the ladies social each Wednesday morning brings them in too.

Kingaroy – what’s been happening there???

Kingaroy were short of players last weekend with 12 members away in Pialba for the Pennants Final.

Due to other commitments the team to Pialba was not full strength.

The Kingaroy team only able to win 1 game but they acquitted themselves with some distinction against opposition chosen from a much larger pool of players.

Back home on Sunday, and in the Triples

  • Dave Woods, Steve Vine, Val Jepperson 22 def. Robbie Johnson, Briggitte Kung, Beryl Woods 20
  • Fred Keding, Filipe Munoz, Alan Irwin 19 drew. Charmaine Macleod, Eric Ford, Malcolm Macleod 19

Cheap Tuesday – on Tuesdays, naturally! – is also proving quite popular.

Results:

  • Steve Carland, Bob Robinson 17 def. Briggitte Kung, Dave Clapperton 14
  • Dave Barwick, Col Kratzmann 20 def, Peter Neilsen, Erris Vale 12
  • Lindy Clutterbuck (sub. Fred Keding), Geoff Clutterbuck, 20 def. Kev Raffin, Alan Irwin 13

Last Thursday’s Triples — 6 points for a win and 1 point for each end won – the winners were Dave Woods, Des Richards, Col Kratzmann. Win plus 14 ends 20 points.

And here’s a run-down of the results:

  • Dave Woods, Des Richards, Col Kratzmann 16 def. Dave Clinker, Lyle Dascombe, Alan Irwin 14
  • Glad Slatter, Keith Kratzmann, Dave Clapperton 20 def. Keith Muller, Col McBride, Alan Rogerson 17.

Kilcoy news, and there’s quite a bit happening down there:

First, a big finish to the Corporate and Community Challenge when three teams finished on 13 points – the Games Director had the difficult task of a count back.

Tree Change Realty collected the trophy and weekly winners on the last day were Julie Baird, Bill Baird, John and Margaret Worrall.

The ladder ended up with Team Change Realty 13; J & T Livestock 13; Kilcoy Hospital 13; Kilcoy Laundry 10; Ring Ins 10; Grey Nomads 10; Golf Club 7; and Lions Club 4.

The tournament was sponsored by the Somerset Regional Council.

Pub Day winners last Wednesday were Alan Thorpe’s team and Runner Ups were Peter Stanton’s team.

And on Tuesday’s social day 19 players turned up.

Tony Gray, Phyllis Coffee Harry McIllwain and Terry Pratten were the over all winners 22 – 15 against Noel Lanes (playing two positions) Lester Bechly and John Worrall.

Star of the Green was won again by Jeff Welden defeating Margaret Worrall.

Quite a bit coming up at Kilcoy too.

Today is Kay Avery Day, supporting the Kilcoy Hospital Auxiliary; and next Tuesday is Presidents at Home Day/ Birthday, with 14 visiting teams nominated so far. This will be followed by the Men’s Two Day Carnival on the 26th and 27th.

Esk is building up their frequent traveller points.

Last Sunday virtually the whole club went to Windsor for their annual Noddy’s Shield Challenge, which underwent a change of format this year: the usual triples were played but teams – other than the skips – were randomly drawn. Something different, eh??

As things turned out, Esk skips won three out of five of their matches. But on the day Esk went down narrowly and handed the shield back.

Next week several teams will be going to Gatton to their Pub Day and one team to Laidley for their Pub Day,

And of course – barefoot bowls on Thursday nights!

Wondai news: last week I didn’t have details of the winners of the Wondai Lady President’s Day, but now I do.

The winning team was lead to skip Robin Diercke (Yarraman) Hazel Sippel (Goomeri) Barry Wengel (Durong) and Sylvia Hiltunen (Murgon).

Runners-up the Wondai Ladies’ official team of Hilda Wenck, Margaret Wyatt, Terry Kilford and Del Lane.
Well done Wondai ladies!

Speaking of Wondai, it’s Trophy Day there today: the Breathe Easy Carpet Cleaning Trophy, a mixed one game over 21 ends, with a start time of 1pm.

And a reminder: the Ladies Perpetual Cup is being held on Thursday 24th .
