It was only $6 but this donation for the 2013 Relay For Life has touched the hearts of a trio of very tired walkers.
The team mates, from the South Burnett Regional Council, went to McDonald’s in Kingaroy on Sunday morning after the all-night walk for a much-needed coffee.
As they sat outside, a little girl came out through the glass doors and asked them why they all had the same colour shirts on.
“We replied that we were raising money for people who were sick, that our team was part of an all-night walking group and that over the weekend people like us had raised over $100,000,” Sheena Uebergang said.
“The little girl was quite impressed by this because her mouth was open wide with “wow” for that much money.
“I said that we were part of the Relay For Life walk and that she would be most welcome to join next year because everyone can get involved.
“She repeated the words ‘Relay for Life’ under her breath and rushed off in a hurry inside to tell her mum (who was standing in line).
“A couple of minutes later, two girls came racing out with $3.00 each in their hands.
“They said that it was their weekly pocket money and that they wanted to give it to our fundraising. They then went onto say that they’d definitely be joining a team next year for their purple shirts!
“A bit speechless, the girl’s mum, Kelly Arnold, walked outside to say that they wanted to give the money to the cause. So we humbly and gratefully thanked them for their donation.”
Kelly said her sister had died last year so the girls knew how important it was to raise money for these causes.
