Bowlers are going to be quite busy this weekend, with a bit of travelling involved.

Yarraman has at least three teams heading to Nanango this morning for their monthly challenge in rotational triples.

Today in Kilcoy, it’s the last game of their Corporate and Community challenge and it’s President’s Day in Proston tomorrow with a 9:00am start.

Monday in Nanango, self-selected pairs; Ladies Rose Bowl in Nanango on Tuesday (2 rounds of 21), on Wednesday a busload of 44 women from Gympie and Wide Bay visit Yarraman (morning tea at the Heritage House museum, a quick game on the Yarraman green and then lunch with Yarraman Ladies); on Thursday night bowls at both Yarraman and Nanango.

It was Lady President’s Day in Wondai on Thursday.

Yarraman’s Robyn Diercke, fresh from a holiday in China, was a member of the winning four. Lady President Dell Lane’s official team was runners-up.

What a big weekend they had in Kingaroy last Saturday and Sunday! Twenty-six teams from throughout South-East Queensland converged on the peanut capital for their Open Mixed Fours Carnival.

Numbers were slightly down on previous years due to Pennant commitments on the Sunshine and Gold Coast. However the competition was strong. It was amazing the number of teams going through undefeated; a number of State were players taking part.

The competition comprised of 5 x 18 end games with the winners being determined by the number of games won combined with the number of ends won. The prize money went down to 12th place.

They certainly came in from everywhere. I will quickly run through the board (the first 10 anyway):

  • 1st – Wynnum – Evan Lowry, Tommy Kelly, Tom Bale, Maria Rigby – 5 wins, 59 1/2 ends
  • 2nd – Beenleigh – Steve Stone, Sarah Duffield, Ray Smith, Alan Ferguson – 5 wins, 54 ends
  • 3rd – Kandanga – Puddy Dan, Aileen Horne, Greg Breitkrautz, Jack Horne – 5 wins, 52 1/2 ends
  • 4th – Toowoomba – Rob Ramsay, Sue Ramsay, Brian Slatter, Graham Kath
  • 5th – Kingaroy – Charmaine Macleod, Wayne Thatcher, Bronwyn Grant, Malcolm Macleod
  • 6th – Kingaroy – Maureen Kemp, Dianne Reed, Errol Dionysius Phil Kemp
  • 7th – Boondah – Kathy Proctor, Sandy Gilbert, Bob Proctor, Ross Gilbert
  • 8th – Kingaroy – Danny Holligan, Trevor Turner, Glen Turner, Wendy Turner
  • 9th – Pomona – Elizabeth Dewhurst, Judith Muir, Charlie Dewhurst, Keith Muir
  • 10th – Kingaroy – Lester Newman, Tracey Lindridge, Paul Geritz, Mark Williams

Great standard of play, well done Kingaroy club!

Great news from Yarraman Ladies, their championship calendar has been finalised.

The final of the Ladies Triples was played off on Wednesday and what a match it was.

Skip Ivy Wrembeck guided her team of Robyn Diercke and Lorrie Holmes to an exciting 18 -15 win over Skip Helene Johnson and her team of Di Currell and Bev Profke. Ivy’s team got off to a very slow start and after seven ends were down 2-9. At 15 ends it was level at 13 all,  but from there it was all Ivy. Her team took over and they skipped away to win 18-15.

Social play on the day:
Eileen Elliott, Allison Anderson and John Moore 8 defeated Eunice Smith, Yvonne Schultz and Neil Johnston 7 – that was a close one
Roy Wrembreck Glenda Wolski 12 defeated Kay Dugdell and John Beattie 8
Margaret Willoughby and Jim LeCoq 16 defeated Jenny Moore and Horst Meyer 15 – that was a close game also – and – the Ladies were the skips.

At Nanango, it’s been a little bit warm on the greens this week. The green keeper is getting it ready for one of the big events of the year, the Men’s Fours Carnival on the weekend of October 26-27.

Friday of last week,  Scroungers  results (some of the top scroungers must have been away, not big scores):  Bbest effort was Terry Howard with 59 and Lew Saunders on 53.

On Tuesday,  Men’s Social,  Felipe Munoz & Jim Steverink 25 pts
Les Camps & Warren Arthur 21 pts.
