Ros Heit
Division 6 councillor Ros Heit
October 1, 2013

Newly elected Division 6 Councillor Ros Heit was sworn in by South Burnett Chief Executive Officer Ken McLoughlin at an informal ceremony in the Council’s Glendon Street offices yesterday.

The swearing-in ceremony will allow Mrs Heit to begin acting immediately as the official representative for her Division, ahead of a “formal” ceremony which will be held at the Council’s next meeting on October 16.

Mrs Heit was elected at the recent by-election called after the resignation of former Cr Cheryl Dalton in July.

She was introduced to fellow councillors yesterday.

Mrs Heit also received a briefing from Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and fellow councillors on the major issues currently before Council, and was given a copy of the LGAQ Handbook and a briefing by the CEO on the responsibilities and duties of her new job.

Since Cr Dalton’s departure, fellow councillors have been handling her previous portfolio responsibilities.

However these are expected to undergo a slight reshuffle following Mrs Heit’s appointment.

Mrs Heit is expected to take over the Communities portfolio, which is currently being handled by Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell.

The new portfolio responsibilities are likely to be:

  • Mayor Wayne Kratzmann – Economic Development, Tourism, Arts, Governance and Human Resources
  • Cr Keith Campbell – Finance and Town Planning
  • Cr Damien Tessmann – Roads
  • Cr Barry Green – Water & Wastewater and Sport & Recreation
  • Cr Kathy Duff – Natural Resource Management, Parks & Gardens, Waste, Indigenous Affairs
  • Cr Deb Palmer – IT and Properties
  • Cr Ros Heit – Communities
