At the close of counting this evening of ballot papers for Division 6 of the South Burnett Regional Council, candidate Don Pinwill, from Tingoora, is leading with 519 votes.
Results so far (in ballot paper order):

- Michael Magnussen – 147
- Ros Heit – 449
- Peter Powne – 139
- Marc Peters – 125
- Wendy Turner – 230
- Ian Newson – 423
- Don Pinwill – 519
- Informal – 33
Total: 2140
Candidate Ros Heit told southburnett.com.au this evening that there was still a bundle of about 500 votes to be counted.
Several hundred postal votes had also been lodged incorrectly.
She noted that few voters had allocated preferences.
Voters in Division 6 voters have until September 24 to return their completed ballot papers by mail.
There are 3707 voters in the Division.
The by-election was called after the resignation of Cr Cheryl Dalton.
In the 2012 South Burnett Regional Council election, Cr Dalton received 1696 votes, Don Pinwill had 1200, with 57 informal.
