The South Burnett will be the place to be over the Labour Day weekend in October with more than 40 events planned throughout the region as part of “South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show”.
“The South Burnett Regional Council is very excited about the events happening across the region over the long weekend,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
“Cherbourg Council and the South Burnett Regional Council are working with the wine industry and a group of businesses which have put together a weekend full of activities.
“I commend the organisers.
“The October long weekend will become South Burnett’s signature weekend. The region will become known as the place to be over the first weekend in October.”
Cr Kathy Duff said the line-up of events was a great example of two councils working with businesses and organisations.
“Some of the highlights of the weekend will be the Inland Fishing Competition at Bjelke Petersen Dam followed by a traditional kup murri lunch of fish,” she said.
“The weekend of activities also includes the King of the Park 4WD Challenge being held at Manar Park.”
Mayor Kratzmann said the line-up of events would certainly attract tourists from outside the region.
“This is an excellent opportunity to show people why the South Burnett is a great place to live and a lovely place to visit,” he said.
“We have so many reasons for people to want to visit the South Burnett and stay for a few days. Our wineries are certainly one of our most well known attractions.”
South Burnett and Cherbourg on Show was initiated by the South Burnett wine industry.
The events begin on Friday, October 4, and continue over the long weekend until Monday, October 7.
“On the Saturday, the Ration Shed at Cherbourg has organised a tour and lunch. It is known for attracting interstate and international visitors,” Cr Duff said.
“Our Aboriginal heritage and culture is enjoyed and embraced by so many tourists that come to the region.
“I would encourage tourists and locals to check out the list of events and make the most of the long weekend.”
