Submissions to the Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal on the remuneration of Queensland MPs and former MPs closed on Tuesday (September 10).
A spokesman for the Tribunal said today about 2590 submissions had been received and would be considered over the coming weeks as part of the Tribunal’s initial review of the salaries, allowances and entitlements of MPs and former MPs.
The Tribunal is scheduled to make its first determination regarding MP remuneration by October 15.
The review was established earlier this year after it was revealed State MPs could be in line for a 42 per cent rise after a pay freeze put in place by the previous Labor Government was deemed to be illegal.
The increases would have seen Queensland MPs get an extra $57,000 a year and Ministers an extra $90,000. Premier Campbell Newman’s pay would have risen by $117,000.
There was also concern at the time that the rises could also flow on to local councils.
