Westec Civil – a construction company which has been working for the past 10 months in the South Burnett – has asked to pass on its thanks to the various businesses in the local area which have provided essential support for them during their stay.

Managing director Dan McManus said local businesses supplied accommodation, materials, fuel, vehicles, personnel and other supplies essential to the company’s successful operation.

Westec was engaged by the South Burnett Regional Council to repair roads damaged during the 2011 floods.

However the contract was extended for another six months after the 2013 Australia Day floods.

All up, the work completed by Westec was worth approximately $4.2 million.

Mr McManus said of this amount some $530,000 was spent in the South Burnett region on local labour, accommodation expenses, fuel, vehicles, contractors and other suppliers.

Another $620,000 was spent within the region on materials for the contract.

Westec began the work, which was awarded as part of the National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), in September 2012.

Roads that were worked on included:

Jumma, Mannuem, Strongs, Burra Burri, Seiler, Greystonlea,  McLucas, Pointons, Niagara, Belgrave, Cants, Wicks, West Wooroolin, Half Mile Creek, Benair, Ellwoods, Lamperds, Oakden, Duffs Boundary, Lawson, Ten Chain, Jacksons, Hodges, Wellers, Home Creek Loop, Jacobsen, Learmonts, Findowie, Liesegangs, Logans, Mt Wooroolin, Luck, Magees, Meehans, Ironpot, Kumbia Minmore, Wattlegrove, Minmore, Ogilvys, Deep Creek, Hoopers, Ritchings, Slatterys, Boonenne Ellesmere, Trouts, Red Tank, Bridget Carroll, Broad Creek, Denmark, Wingfields, Wooden Hut, Wilsons, Hodges Dip, Woods Road, Holts, Dangore Mountain, Dunfords and Reedy Creek roads, and Recreation Drive.

Westec were responsible for traffic controls, survey works, service locating and pot-holing works, road repair and restoration, overlay and stabilisation of pavements, pavement resealing, table drain regrading and desilting, culvert repair and restoration, reconstruction of concrete floodways,  heavy formation grading of gravel roads, gravel resheeting, and final site clean-up works.
