The South Burnett Regional Council says the decision to introduced quarterly rates notices has been a success.

A council spokesman said there had been a 35 per cent drop in the number of rates in arrears since the introduction of more frequent bills.

“We made a decision to move to quarterly rates to ensure they were easier for people to budget, and this has resulted in a significant drop in the amount of rates in arrears,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.

The Council introduced quarterly rate notices in the 2012-2013 Council budget.

“Councillors thought long and hard at Budget time about the decision to introduce quarterly rate notices,” finance spokesman Cr Keith Campbell said.

“The number of people paying their rates on time confirms that Council made the right decision.”

Mayor Kratzmann said the increase in the number of ratepayers paying their rates on time was “very encouraging”.

“It is greatly appreciated by both the Councillors and Council staff that so many ratepayers have paid their rates on time.

“It makes our job of providing services to the community so much easier,” he said.
