October 18, 2012

The Murgon Neighbourhood Watch group had reason to celebrate recently with the presentation of two Neighbourhood Watch gold lapel award badges.

The badges were presented to long-time volunteers Lindsay Charlish and Lyn Koy.

The Gold Lapel Badge Award is awarded to NHW volunteers who have been a member of the group for more than five years and have been an active officeholder within the committee.

They must have performed their elected position to a very high standard and gone above and beyond their elected role by promoting community safety and crime prevention within their neighbourhood.

They also must have demonstrated a commitment to working in partnership with the Queensland Police Service and other NHW stakeholders. This award is the highest that can be bestowed upon a NHW member.

Lindsay Charlish

Lindsay started with the Murgon NHW in April 1998 and was the Treasurer from January 2007 until September 2011.

Throughout his time with the Murgon NHW, he diligently assisted the group with community activities and promoted crime prevention and awareness within Murgon. He has always been a happy and friendly member of the group and was well known for his informative treasurers reports.

He resigned this position due to his relocation to the Sunshine Coast with his wife, Estelle.

Lyn Koy

Lyn was the Murgon NHW secretary from June 1998 until February 2011, taking over from the inaugural secretary

She carried out her secretarial duties diligently and with enthusiasm and has written countless crime prevention articles for the local Murgon Moments newspaper, and printed and distributed NHW meeting flyers within the community.

Along with other members of the group, she has organised engraving of property and bicycles.

Lyn has kept folders of meeting minutes, crime bulletins and other information since 1998. This now serves as a historical insight into the progression of the group.

Lyn is always a very happy and positive person. Through her tireless work, Murgon community members have learnt the importance of reporting anything suspicious within their neighbourhood.

Lyn has previously been awarded a Bronze Badge in 2004, a Silver Badge in 2008 and now a Gold Badge in 2012.

She is now the most awarded Neighbourhood Watch member within the Murgon community. Unfortunately Lyn has had to resign from this position due to ill health.

Both Lyn and Lindsay have been very giving of their time and truly deserve to be recognised for the outstanding efforts in keeping the Murgon NHW group running for so many years.
