Nanango tennis players can now safely play their sport well into the evening following recent upgrades to the Nanango tennis courts.
The Tarong Community Partnership Fund, established by Stanwell Corporation Limited, provided $13,490 to the Nanango Tennis Association to upgrade the lighting of its three tennis courts.
Heritage Nanango Community Branch gave $34,800 assistance to the club to resurface the playing area.
The club also put in about $8000 to the project.
The upgraded courts were officially opened on Tuesday night.
Meandu Mine Operations Superintendent Simon Ewart, who represented Stanwell and the Tarong Community Partnership Fund at the opening, congratulated all those involved in the upgrade of the tennis facilities.
“This revamped facility will be used and enjoyed all year round,” Mr Ewart said.
“The Tarong Community Partnership Fund is a way we can help support our community’s priorities and recognise the important contribution that the South Burnett community makes to our business.”
Nanango Tennis Association Secretary Leigh Lawrence said the wider South Burnett community would benefit from the upgraded facilities, which were used not only by the club’s 67 members but also by many social players.
“Many community members from Nanango and the surrounding areas meet at the courts each week to play a few rounds of tennis, socialise and stay healthy,” Ms Lawrence said.
“Thanks to the support of the Tarong Community Partnership Fund and Heritage Nanango Community Branch, our members and players now have an attractive and, most importantly, safe venue for sport and social interactions.”
