Nanango country music singer Amber Goldsmith is “absolutely stoked” with her success at the annual Garden City Country Music Festival held in Oakey at weekend.

Not only did she come first in the songwriting category with “Fireseason Again”, her song also took out the major “Best Australian Song” award over the whole weekend of competition.

“Fireseason Again” is taken from Amber’s latest CD “Life’s A Test”.

Life has certainly been a test this year for the amazingly talented Nanango singer.

Her father, rural firefighter Brendon Goldsmith, 57, suddenly collapsed and died during a public presentation in Nanango in February. His funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners from across Queensland.

Amber has been working through the tragedy while at the same time working on songs for her next album.

She also did well in other competitions at Oakey, including:

  • 3rd – Bush Ballad – “Land Cries Out”
  • 2nd – Variety Act – “Country Roads” and “To Her Door”
  • 2nd – Country Rock – “Let ‘Er Rip”
  • 2nd – Gospel – “Three Wooden Crosses”
  • 2nd – Duet with Amanda Faulkner – “Driving My Life Away”
  • 1st – Open Group with Amanda Faulkner and Lorrae Charles
