South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Maidenwell Country Music Muster
CANCELLED: The inaugural Maidenwell Country Music Muster will be held at JA Gorton Oval in Maidenwell - just next to the Maidenwell Hotel - from 12:00 noon until around 8:00pm tonight. This year's Muster will be headlined by well-known country music performer Beccy Cole, but other artists who'll be appearing include Libby O’Donovan, Gina Timms, Aleyce Simmonds, Kiara Rodrigues, Liam Kennedy-Clark, Dean Perrett and The Spurs. There'll be free overnight camping in the grounds as well. Tickets to the Muster are $85.49 per head and need to be booked by May 10. The Muster will continue tomorrow, kicking off with a $50 Encore Breakfast with some of this year's performers. More details are available on the Maidenwell Country Muster's website

Burrandowan Picnic Races
The Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning until very late tonight. The first race in this year's five-race program will leave the barriers at 1:30pm and there'll also be a Fashions on the Field competition with prizes; a licensed bar operating from around 11:00am; country food available all day from the race club's cafe; other food stalls in the grounds; and the traditional pit-fired barbecues at night (BYO plate and cutlery), followed by entertainment from local band Rysa. There's also be picnic hampers available for pick-up, but you'll need to book these in advance from the race club's website. Shuttle buses will be running from Kingaroy and free overnight camping is available as well. Entry to this year's meeting is $25 per head and there are no ATMs on site.
Saturday Rugby League - Murgon and Wondai
The 47th Battalion Junior Rugby League will be played at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm today. Junior boys and girls from the South Burnett will play against teams from Fraser Coast and Bundaberg on the hour across two fields throughout the day, before the event culminates in a TJRL U18s game between South Burnett and Toowoomba Brothers at 5:00pm. Meanwhile, fans of the local A-grade competition should head to the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD, where the Wondai Wolves will play Kingaroy's Red Ants at 1:00pm, followed by a clash between Murgon's Mustangs and Cherbourg's Hornets at 3:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Psychic Fair - Nanango
The South Burnett Spiritualist Church will be holding a Psychic Fair at the QCWA Hall in Fitzroy Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. Psychic readers will be attending from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Nanango and you can get a reading for $20 or a bit of healing for a gold coin donation. Barrel Racing - Nanango
The NBHA District 9 Western Downs barrel racing competition will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 7:00am to around 10:00am this morning. Participants will need to pay $20 for NBHA membership to take part (if they're not already a member) plus extra fees for some runs, but spectators can come along and watch the action for free.
Burnett Birdkeepers Annual Sale - Nanango
The Burnett Bird Keepers will be holding their 5th annual Bird Sale at the canteen area inside the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 9:00am until around 1:00pm this morning (the canteen and an ATM will both be operating). Last year's sale saw vendors and purchasers come from all parts of NSW through to Central Queensland, and this year the club expect the event will be even bigger. Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be hosting its first-ever Byte Night from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiaitive in any way should contact Acting Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Mothers Day Cent Sale - Hivesville
The Hivesville QCWA will be holding their popular Mothers Day Cent Sale at Mondure Hall today - a really great opportunity to pick up a present for mum for tomorrow! (ie Mothers Day) Doors will open at 12:30pm and the auction will get underway at 1:00pm sharp. Winter Fashion Launch - Proston
NB Inspirations will be launching their Winter fashion collection at the Jacaranda Tearooms in Blake Street, Proston at 3:00pm this afternoon. Tickets are $10 per head (which includes an amazing spread of treats, tea and punch - coffee is sold separately), and afterwards the stock can be viewed at NB Inspirations' department store just a few doors away. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Mothers Day Afternoon Tea At Ringsfield
A special Mothers Day Afternoon Tea will be held at historic Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Kingaroy from 1:30pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. Apart from celebrating Mums and avoiding the rush - Mothers Day actually falls tomorrow - the event is a fundraiser to help train a special seizure-alert dog for Kalila Vukelic, who suffers from a disability (Rett Syndrome). Proston Rally
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly CAMS Khanacross Multiclub Rally at their racing track this weekend (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston on the Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence around 11:00am this morning and there'll also be burnouts from around 5:30pm, with racing wrapping up around 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club early on Sunday morning. Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The sixth round of this season's soccer competition will be played in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Gunners at the Burnett Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango, with the women's division kicking off at 1:40pm, followed by the men's division match at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home team Wests will play the mighty Barambah Bears on the sacred ground of Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with the women's division playing at 3:15pm, followed by the men's division at 5:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, this year's junior soccer season will play its third round today, with all matches being played at the Wondai soccer fields between 8:00am and 11:00am.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding its fourth and last Club Day for 2018 on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this morning from 10:00am (when racing gets underway). PeeWees, SuperLites, 125cc and 250cc will all be in action. The morning will be followed by the presentation of the Kingaroy McDonalds Championships awards for 2018. Regatta In The Park Presentations - Proston
The Coverty Creek Community Development and Social Club will be holding a presentations ceremony at Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street at 10:30am this morning to thank sponsors and supporters of this year's highly successful Regatta In The Park, which was held over the Easter weekend. In addition to presentations and awards, there'll also be raffles followed by tea, coffee and bikkies. Everyone is welcome!
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be playing their second home game of the season today. The Saints wome3n's team will be taking on University Cougars at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 12:30pm this afternoon, and they'll be followed by the Saints men's team playing the Cougars at 2:30pm in the fifth round of the Darling Downs Allied Pickfords Cup. The Saints men's team scored their first win of the season last weekend, so they will be understandably keen to see if they can make it two in a row, so it promises to be a good game. The women's team, meanwhile, will be playing the second round of their competition today, and will be equally keen to do well. A canteen and bar will also be operating on-site, there's no admission charge and spectators are very welcome.
Lance & Harry - Kingaroy
Father and son duo Lance & Harry will be performing at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm to around 11:30pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
