Murgon RC Club Fun Day - Murgon
The Murgon RC Club for radio-controlled cars will be holding a Fun Day at their racetrack next to Angelfield Aerodrome at the end of Macalister Street, Murgon from 10:00am to 2:00pm today (drive w-a-y past the Showgrounds along the dirt road and through the gate marked "Private Property"). Competitors can race their cars around the circuit as much as they like, and there'll be a BBQ lunch and soft drinks available too. Spectators are more than welcome to come along for free, but to take part in the racing you'll need to be a PCYC member ($30 per year for an adult or $60 per family - you can join up on site today) and the fee for racing is $10. Sunday Afternoon Touch Footy Training - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Touch Football Association will be holding their regular Sunday afternoon touch footy training sessions at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy for juniors (at 4:00pm) and seniors (at 5:00pm). New players are very welcome!
Tablelands Markets
The Tableland Hall Committee will be holding their popular bi-annual Market Day at Tablelands Hall from 67:00am to around 2:00pm today. These markets are only held twice a year and are becoming quite a crowd-pleaser with a lots of stalls offering everything from fresh produce through to coffee and tea, cakes and baked goods, plants and bric-a-brac. There'll also be a great steak sandwiches and hot chips on offer; a raffle; background music; and fun competitions for adults and children including a floral competion (one flower up to a bunch of flowers in a vase or jar); a vegetable competition (one vegetable up to a group of vegies); and a colouring competition for school children. Cr Kathy Duff will also be in attendance this morning to answer any questions you have about Council or hear about local issues you'd like her to look into. Timbertown Woodworkers Group Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers Group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am until around 12:00pm today. Ulysses MC Sunday Breakfast Ride - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's favourite motorcycle club, the Ulysses MC Burnett Branch (motto: "Grow old disgracefully") will be holding a Sunday breakfast ride to Blackbutt this morning. Members will meet at the Kingaroy Hotel at the corner of Haly and Youngman Streets at 7:30am for a ride to Blackbutt for brekkie at around 8:30am. Kilkivan Sunday Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Sunday AFL - Toowoomba
POSTPONED The Darling Downs AFL competition will kick off today and the South Burnett Saints will play their first game of the season against South Toowoomba at Rockville Oval in Tor Street, Toowoomba. The Saints are heading into an expanded eight-team Division 2 competition in 2014, playing 19 rounds over 22 weeks before the Grand Final on August 23. Their first home game at Kingaroy's Lyle Vidler Oval won't happen until April 26, though, so if you're a hardcore AFL fan who wants to support the local team you should plan on doing a bit of driving for the next few weeks.
7 Mile Diggings Trail Ride - Nanango
The South Burnett Trail Horse Riders Club will be holding an all-day trail ride through the 7 Mile Diggings area in Nanango today. Riders should assemble at the Old Esk Road cattle grid into the diggings at 9:00am for a 9:30am gee-up. The ride will take 4-5 hours so if you're coming, you should bring along a saddle bag lunch and water (there'll be water for horses along the route). Cost is $5 for Athra members, but if you're not currently a member there'll be forms available on the day so you can sign aboard.
Sunday Afternoon Darts - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Darts Association will be holding their regular Sunday afternoon Pot Luck Doubles darts competitions from 11:00am to 4:00pm at their premises at Shed 1, 18 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. A $10 playing fee applies, but that includes a great BBQ lunch. New players are always welcome - the club caters for all skill levels from novice to expert - and you can obtain more details by phoning Kurt on (0403) 400-771 (after 5:00pm) or Bianca on (0431) 954-023. Note: Pot Luck Doubles may not run on every Sunday due to other competitions, so call first to check if you really, really want to play PLD today.
Sunday Bowls - Nanango
The Nanango Bowls Club in Henry Street, Nanango will be holding Rotational Triples today. There'll be two games with a 9:30am start, followed by a basket lunch. More details from the club: (07) 4163-3363.
Sunday Golf - Blackbutt, Nanango, Kingaroy and Proston
There's a fair bit of golfing action around the region today. In Blackbutt, the Blackbutt Golf Club in Bowman Road will be holding the finals of their Club Stroke Play Chapionships. More details: (07) 4163-0180. In Nanango, the Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway north of town will be hosting the BGA Agriservices 3 Person Ambrose: (07) 4163-1463. And in Kingaroy, the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of town will be holding a Men's Single Stroke: (07) 4162-1720. And in Proston, the Proston Golf Club at 81 Brigooda Road will be holding its regular Sunday competition this morning.
