18th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride
The Yarraman Agricultural Society's 18th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride will be held in and around Yarraman today. The Ride is the second-biggest in the region (the other is the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride) and this year's event will feature two trails around the Yarraman district: a 20km ride and a 30km ride. The rides will leave the Showgrounds around 7:30am and return at around 4:45pm. In the evening, they'll be followed by a programme of live entertainment which will run from 7:00pm until around midnight, along with meals and a bar. Admission to the Ride is $20 (which includes the evening entertainment programme) and there'll be overnight camping facilities and hot showers available at the Showgrounds too, including a burger dinner on Friday night; breakfast and dinner on Saturday; and a recovery breakfast on Sunday morning. Riders and spectators are both very welcome and you can obtain more details by phoning (07) 4163-8506. Note: The rides are suitable for all ages, but no colts or stallions are allowed to take part.
Kumbia State School Centenary Celebration Day
- Kumbia State School is celebrating its Centenary today, and all members of the public are invited to join the school in commemorating this exciting historic milestone. There will be classroom displays, market stalls, rides and activities for the children; the opening of the school's time capsule and much, much more! Food and drinks will be available all day too. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Bush Ballad Country Music Spectacular - Wondai
- A Bush Ballad Country Music Spectacular will be held at the Wondai RSL in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:00pm onwards tonight as a fundraiser for the Queensland Cancer Council. Artists who'll be performing this year include Les Lawson, Jim Brown, the Kehl Family, the Wiley Family and special guest artist Slim Jones from Mackay. Taste South Burnett Re-Opening - Kingaroy
- Taste South Burnett will be re-opening at their new premies at Shop 4, 36 Alford Street in Kingaroy at 10:00am this morning. The popular business has been closed over the last month to relocate from their former site at the old Kingaroy Butter Factory in William Street. From today onwards, though, the new store will be open from 11:00am to 5:30pm Mondays to Fridays, and 10:00am to 4:00pm Saturdays, Sundays and most public holidays.
Quota International Women's Day Dinner - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy branch of Quota International will be holding an International Womens Day Dinner in the Tobruk Room of Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm onwards this evening (proceedings get underway at 6:30pm sharp). The dinner will feature well-known ABC TV weather presenter Jenny Woodward as special guest speaker. Tickets to tonight's dinner are $50 per person or $450 for a table of 10 and need to be booked by February 24th to assist with planning the catering. Dance - Tablelands Hall
- A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome! Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's 2013-14 A-Grade cricket competition will enter its 17th round today with the first half of another set of two-day matches. In Kingaroy, Kingaroy RSL will play the Murgon Crusaders at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street; while in Wondai, the Wondai Wolves will tackle the Nanango Scorpions at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway. And in the B Grade competition (all one day matches), Kingaroy Warriors will play the Kumbia Rattlers at Kingaroy State School; Kingaroy RSL will play Murgon Colts at Taabinga State School; and the Murgon Diggers will take on Barambah at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all games.
Shindig For Shona - Goomeri
- A Shindig For Shona to help raise funds for Murgon's dual amputee Shona Muckert will be held at the Goomeri Hall Of Memory from 7:30pm until late tonight. This good old-fashioned country dance will feature live music, raffles, finger foods and a licensed bar. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Dance - Inverlaw Hall
- A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Saturday Golf
There's a bit of golfing action around the region today. In Blackbutt, the Blackbutt Golf Club in Bowman Road will be holding a single stableford with a 12:00 noon tee-off; and in Kingaroy, the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway will be holding the Dawson's Mug Stroke and Putt Event for men. New players are very welcome at all games.

Nanango Trial Match - Nanango
- If you've missed rugby league over the summer, then get along to Fred Kassulke Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango's CBD at 6:00pm tonight. The 2014 Stags A-grade side will be taking on the Oakey Bears in a pre-season trial match, followed at 7:00pm by a parallel match for each club's U18 sides. Both games should be well worth seeing, and spectators and supporters are most welcome!
