Yellowbelly Fishing Competition - Lake Boondooma
The 34th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam near Proston all this weekend, commencing at 5:00am today and concluding around lunchtime tomorrow. The family-friendly event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association - will have heaps of prizes for each weigh-in period. Food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration (BYO alcohol). Accommodation is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. All competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. NB. There are no pre-nominations this year. Memorial Park Youth Precinct Opening - Kingaroy
- South Burnett residents have been invited to attend the “official” opening of the new youth area in Kingaroy’s Memorial Park today. The Kingaroy Basketball Association will be running 3x3 basketball competitions from 3:00pm with prizes for the winners. At 5:00pm local MP, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff and councillors and Council staff, local contractors and stakeholders will be on hand for the official opening ceremony. There'll also be a Rotary Club BBQ and an ice cream van.
Kingaroy Red Ants Season Launch
The Kingaroy Red Ants rugby league club will be holding a sign-on afternoon and movie night at their clubhouse beside T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, from 3:00pm this afternoon. There'll be skills, drills and games plus an opportunity to meet coaches and team staff.
Maidenwell Trading Post Opening Day
- The Maidenwell Trading Post, at 3-7 Pool Street, Maidenwell, is under new management. They're hosting an opening day from 10:00am this morning with live music; free tea, coffee or hot chocolate with any purchase; and free lolly bags for the kids.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Valentine Dance - Inverlaw Hall
- A special Valentine's Day-themed dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mystique and there'll be the usual supper and novelty dances, along with a prize for the Best Dressed Valentine. Proston Khanacross
Proston Car Rally Club will be holding Day 1 of their weekend-long Proston Khanacross at their race track today (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston at 757 Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will start at 10:00am and wrap up towards nightfall, when there'll also be a burnout competition from 6:00pm. Competitors come from all over Queensland and spectators are very welcome. There'll also be a food van on site and a licensed bar will open at 4:00pm. Showers are available with free camping. Admission for spectators is free and everyone is welcome! More details? Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
- The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Yarraman Country Markets
- The new Yarraman Country Markets will be on from 8:00am to noon this morning at Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman. The markets - which include a fruit and vege stall - are held on the second Saturday of every month. Phone Joe 0459-638-282 to book a stall.
Saturday Cricket
Junior and senior games will be played today at various venues as part of the South Burnett cricket competition. Junior games start at 8:00am: Stage 1, Kingaroy v Kumbia at Kumbia Sportsground; Stage 2, Murgon v Kingaroy Cobras at Murgon Showgrounds; Tingoora Moppets v Nanango Scorpions at Tingoora Sportsground; and Stage 3, Kingaroy v Nanango Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy. Senior games start at 12:30pm: Tingoora Mercenaries v Tingoora Huntsmen at Tingoora Sportsground; Wondai Wolves v Nanango Scorpions at Wondai Cricket Ground; Murgon Diggers v Wooroolin Warriors at Murgon Showgrounds; and Tingoora Vikings v Kingaroy Services at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy.
Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.
Wooroolin Line Dancers
- The Wooroolin Line Dancers will be holding line dancing classes for beginners and intermediate dancers at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning (for beginners) and 10:00am to 12:30pm (intermediate). Course fees are $10 for intermediate (morning tea included) or $5 for beginners. BYO mug. Everyone is welcome.

Aqua Aerobics - Wondai
- Wondai Swimming Pool is hosting free Aqua Aerobics on Saturday mornings from 7:00am until February 8 as part of a South Burnett Regional Council program. Spots can be booked online
Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt
