South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Cooyar Show & Campdraft
The main public day of this year's 74th Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road from early this morning through until late tonight. The Open Campdraft will get under way early at 5:30am. At 8:00am, the Show will start with Stud Beef Cattle judging followed by a Led Steers and Heifers competition and the opening of the pavilions. At 11:00am, the Maiden 4 Maiden, Novice, Maiden, Ladies and Open Campdraft finals will start. At 2:00pm, the $2-a-ride sideshows will open along with free face painting and show bags and the Campdraft finals presentations. This will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:30pm; the official opening at 2:45pm; and then post-ripping and a Young Farmers Challenge at 3:35pm. Laughing Stock Productions will have two shows: at 4:45pm and 6:00pm. The Stockman's Challenge will get under way at 5:00pm followed by the Bull and bronc Rode at 6:30pm a Fireworks Display at around 8:30pm before the day wraps up with a DJ who'll play until late. Admission to this year's Show is $25 for adults, $10 for youngsters aged 11 to 15 and free for under-10s. Note: There are no ATM or EFTPOS facilities available in Cooyar, so bring cash.
League Family Fun Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Red Ants will be hosting the International Legends Of League at T.J. O’Neill Oval as part of a big day of rugby league from 1:30pm this afternoon at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The Legends attracted big crowds when they last visited the South Burnett, in 2019 and 2023 at Cherbourg. This time round they will be pitting the Australian Team Of Legends against the Kingaroy Red Ants All Stars in what is sure to be an fun-filled game. On the paddock will be former NRL stars, local businesspeople and former and current South Burnett players in what is sure to be a hectic and confusing encounter. The family fun day also features an Under 12s game at 1:30pm, followed by Cherbourg Hornets v Oakey Redbelly Blacks at 2:30pm, Kingaroy Red Ants A Grade v Across The Waves at 4:00pm, and then the Legends game at 6:00pm. Pre-sale tickets can be booked online: $15 adults, $5 children aged 5-12 or family $35 (2 adults, 2 kids); or bought at the gate: $20 adults, $5 children and $40 family.
Reef & Beef - Coolabunia
Coolabunia State School P&C will be hosting their annual Reef & Beef night in the school's grounds off the D'Aguilar Highway at Coolabunia from 4:30pm this afternoon to around midnight tonight. This very popular event offers delicious all-you-can seafood, beef, desserts, salads etc accompanied by live entertainment and a licensed bar (EFTPOS and cash). Tickets are $100 per head, with all proceeds going to aid the school's P&C. Tickets are limited and need to be booked online to help plan the catering. Everyone 18 years or over is welcome!
2025 Blackbutt Rallysprint
The 2025 Blackbutt Rallysprint - the opening round of the Queensland Rally Championship - will be held along bush tracks in the Blackbutt area today. The race is being hosted by the Brisbane Sporting Car Club and spectators are welcome. The vehicles will be assembling at the Blackbutt Showgrounds before 7:00am.
Seafood Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another of their all-you-can-eat Seafood Smorgasbords from 6:00pm this evening (dinner starts at 6:30pm). The buffet features all your favourite hot and cold seafoods fresh from the trawlers, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Cost is $70 per head (BYO) and since these dinners are nearly always a sell-out, bookings are essential if you want to be certain of a seat: (07) 4168-5744. Yarraman Holistic Markets
The Yarraman Holistic Markets will be held from 8:00am to noon today at Errol Munt Sports Reserve in Margaret Street, Yarraman. The markets are held on last Saturday of every month and include live music, local products and produce. More info? Phone Bianca 0447-343-641.
Burrandowan Campdraft
The second day of the three-day annual Burrandowan Campdraft will be held at the Chahpingah Reserve on Burra Burri Road, about 60km south-west of Kingaroy, from early this morning until around sunset. Today's action will include a gymkhana from 9:00am, plus Maiden and Maiden 4 Maiden rounds, Open rounds and the Open final. The campdraft is a fundraiser for the Burrandowan Picnic Races in May. Wondai Crime Meeting
Wondai residents concerned about break-ins and vehicle thefts in the town have organised a crime prevention meeting to be held from 2:00pm today at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street.
Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans. The BBQs will also be firing up from around 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed), and you can obtain more details by phoning the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on (07) 4168-5926.
Wooroolin Line Dancers
The Wooroolin Line Dancers will be holding line dancing classes for beginners and intermediate dancers at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning (for beginners) and 10:00am to 12:30pm (intermediate). Course fees are $10 for intermediate (morning tea included) or $5 for beginners. BYO mug. Everyone is welcome.
Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.
Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Skateboarding Workshop - Kumbia
A free skateboarding workshop will be held from 8:00am to noon today at the Kumbia Recreational Reserve, Gordon Street, Kumbia. The 55 Million Years Ago museum and art gallery at 73 Macalister Street, Murgon, will be hosting an elegant afternoon tea, art and craft viewing from 1:30pm to 3:30pm this afternoon. BESS Information Session - Kumbia
Akaysha Energy will be holding an information session from 1-:00am today at the Kumbia Memoiral Hall in regards to its proposed battery energy storage system (BESS) at Ellesmere, feeding power into Ergon’s Halys Substation. The company hopes work to build the 500MW project will begin this year.
